Previously offered exclusively as a train-the-trainer program, this 12-hour course has been divided into four, three-hour sessions so that direct-care staff of residential care facilities and community-based organizations may attend. Case studies, games, role playing, and group exercises bring practical issues alive for direct-care staff. Nurses, social workers, case managers, nursing assistants, dietary workers, activity staff, and others involved in direct care will benefit from participation. All topics meet criteria for initial and annual training requirements by the State of Illinois for dementia Special Care Units and assisted living facilities. If you register for all four sessions, you may attend the last one at no additional charge. Fee: $45/session or $135 for all four sessions. Everyone receives a certificate of completion and those seeking Continuing Education Units (CEUs) pay an extra $10 per session. Continental breakfast and handouts included. Session Three: 1) Intimacy & Sexuality, 2) Making Meaningful Connections though Music, 3) Communicating through Storytelling.

This important Summit will celebrate the opening of CARAH's new virtual Living Laboratory for Elder Care. 9/17/2008 8:30 AM - 4:30 PM   Illinois Dementia Care Train-the-Trainer Program: Rockford, IL
This staff training program, presented in partnership with the Illinois Department of Public Health, is primarily for staff of skilled nursing and assisted living facilities and meets requirement for initial Alzheimer’s care training mandated by the State of Illinois. The $90 fee includes continental breakfast, lunch, a scripted training manual and PowerPoint slides. CEUs are available for Activity Directors, Counselors, Nursing Home Administrators, OTs, PTs, RNs, and Social Workers for an additional $10.

Falls for older adults, especially those diagnosed with dementia, are dangerous and can lead to a variety of health problems that can decrease the quality of life. This class will cover individual and environmental risks as well as proactive steps front line staff can use to help prevent falls in the person with dementia.

The Roskamp Institute Memory Clinic in partnership with the Alzheimer’s Association-Florida Gulf Coast Chapter is pleased to present an update on current and upcoming treatments for Alzheimer’s disease and related dementia. This presentation includes an overview of research presented at the 2008 Alzheimer's Association International Conference on Alzheimer's Disease and Related Disorders (ICAD) in Chicago. This is a FREE event and open to the community.

This lecture is a part of the Alzheimer’s Association-FGCC caregiver training series & support group. The First Baptist Church of Plant City caregiver support group will begin right after the lecture. Community members are welcomed to stay and participate in the group.

Support Group Leader Training in October & November for health care professionals and former caregivers who are interested in leading caregiver or early stage groups. This 28 hour training opportunity is held on four consecutive Fridays. The training incorporates both didactic material with experiential group learning and includes a medical overview, interviews with early stage patients and family caregivers, an overview of services offered by the NYC chapter, as well as lectures and articles about group theory and techniques for group leadership. It has been approved by NASW - New York State for 22.0 contact hours under approval number A-915. Monthly supervision groups are also available to new leaders, as well as to group leaders who are currently leading groups here in the Chapter office and in the community. Support Group Leader Training Workshop Dates: Oct. 17, 24, 31 and Nov 7.
